Société Générale Invests in Online Presence

Société Générale

International bank deploys a collaborative content management and publishing platform to optimize communication across departments and enhance its digital and print media.

With more than 150,000 employees around the world, Société Générale is able to offer a complete range of innovative financial products and services, adapted to the specific needs of individuals, large companies, and institutions. The challenge is for the multinational investment bank to optimize both digital and print publishing of information to promote its brand and its portfolio, and to improve operational efficiency.

  • In 2003, Société Générale chose WEDIA to help it launch a large and complex network of intranet websites. Key factors for success were: the capability to share content between sites; a ten-day publication deadline; and reducing costs by standardizing operations.

  • When the HR department needed to optimize outreach and recruit 19,000 new workers in 2008, the IT department recommended they use the WEDIA solution. With proven performance supporting the group's intranet sites, it was a natural fit for publishing new job information to the company's branded websites around the world. The unified platform helped them overcome challenges associated with multinational publishing, including localizing in multiple languages and respecting local customs and communication styles. Using the WEDIA solution, the bank was able to decentralize content development so in-country staff could be active contributors to the sites, which  improved localization and performance results.
  • The third adopter of the platform at Société Générale was the graphic studio, which in 2008 set out to optimize the creation of communication media for the entire organization. Working as a in-house agency, the studio supports all departments in creating magazines, newsletters, and brochures. Their goal was to improve the global efficiency of the studio, automating and simplifying the review and approval process, and enabling non-technical contributors to work collaboratively while centralizing and sharing content with stakeholders.
Increasing productivity in creating and publishing content while sharing content and centralizing management were key factors of success of the WEDIA and Société Générale projects.
